To The Braves Lacrosse Community,
The 2010 lacrosse season is coming fast and I am excited to see
the effort that is already being made by our new executive to make
this the best year yet for every player, coach and volunteer in our association.
The Braves have a long history of being fierce competitors and, though we are one of the smallest centres in Ontario, we are also known to “punch above our weight” winning many provincial championships over the years; witness the Banners at NSSRC (and the 4 recent wins are now being ordered and will be hoisted this May).
Competing at the highest level is our ultimate goal and it can only be achieved by building up our “home program”. This is done by introducing new players to our sport and by developing excellent skills and conditioning of all participants.
The very good news is that this year Tim Horton's is partnering with us to initiate TimBits Lacrosse, one of the first of it's kind in the country!
Our hopes are to increase our home league numbers so that we can begin playing “full floor” games at the higher ages. But to do so we need your help. If we all register early and bring along 1 friend or relative we will be rewarded with some great fun.
Respect & Recognition is my mantra for this season and I expect that it will be yours as well! By having disciplined behaviour we will surprise ourselves with what will result. And showing a “lack of discipline” will be not tolerated. Players, coaches and our fans are all responsible to make this a positive and enjoyable experience, for everyone involved including our opposition and the officials. After all, it is only a sport!
Finally, we are prepared to run a demonstration clinic at elementary schools. Please ask if your school is interested. It is a great way to show your friends the game. You can contact Kerry Heins at kerryheins@yahoo.ca to arrange a date.
Good luck to all in the coming season,
Yours in lacrosse,
Vic Emberson,
President, MMLA
Important note for Midget & Intermedate age players!
Though the Intermediate age group will continue to be 17-21, the OLA has introduced a pilot group called “Juvenile” (17-18) . Few centres in the province are expected to have a team but it is something we will be exploring. I will be trying to reach players in this age group in February to explain more.
