Huronia Braves Comes Alive With New Graphics

Huronia Braves Lacrosse is the name that the Midland Minor Lacrosse Association has chosen to use to better reflect our membership of today and honor the heritage of our club, sport and the Ouendat tribe that first played lacrosse in this area over 400 years ago.

Our new image includes elements of our past designs. The feather for the indian head, the maple leaf to recignize our national summer game and the BRAVES title word, which was used on the sweater design in the 90's.

This rebranding is reminisent of team name when the club was formed in the late 60's. The Midland Hurons.

New jerseys are now being made and are expected by mid-June. Our colour will remain primary gold with navy. Watch for the new style to be posted.

Tom Coffin Memorial Fund provided us with a $1000 donation

For the second year in a row the Tom Coffin Memorial Fund has given Huronia Braves a donation. Last year we were honoured with a $850 donation and this year we are happy to recieve $1000! This money will help our organization grow.

The fund is quoted

"Every year all the funds raised by the Tom Coffin Memorial Golf tournament are donated to local youth organizations and charities within our communities. "

Lacrosse Clinic by the Pros coming to Midland

Shawn Evans (Calgary Roughnecks, NLL) and myself (Brad Self - Rochester Knighthawks, NLL) have started our own business called Nationwide Lacrosse. This summer we are hosting many different lacrosse camps in many different cities. We will have camps in Cobourg, Midland, Kingston, and Peterborough. Our Midland camp will be held at the North Simcoe Sports and Recreation Centre running from July 22^nd to July 25^th from 8:30am to 4:00pm everyday. A typical day will consist of 3 hours of on floor lacrosse instruction, a 1-hour scrimmage at the end of the day and some fun and interactive games in between (Soccer, Basketball, Dodgeball, Etc). The kids will be split up into groups based on age and skill level so that every kid gets an equal opportunity to improve their skills.
Head Instructor Shawn Evans was just named the 2013 NLL MVP, he won the 2013 NLL scoring title, was selected to the 2013 NLL 1^st Team All Pro and has won 8 major championships including a Gold Medal for Team Canada in 2011.
Head Instructor Brad Self just won back-to-back NLL Championships in 2012 and 2013. He has also won 2 Mann Cup Championships in 2004 and 2012.
Cost of camp is $225 + Tax. Included in the camp price is a Nationwide Lacrosse pinnie and daily camp prizes provided by Under Armour.
If you register before June 10^th your name gets entered into a draw to win a pair of Under Armour gloves and stick as well as a signed poster and player cards from Brad Self and Shawn Evans.
We are now offering a team rate of $3000 for a maximum of 15 kids. That is a savings of $54.25 per kid.
We have a passion for lacrosse and we would like to educate as many people as possible about this great game.

Braves Come Home With 2 More Wins In Stayner

Our Peewee's dropped a 3-2 game against Stayner 1 on Tuesday. it was a hard fought first game of the season for this mostly rookie team. Coach Ryan reported that ther was a very positve attitude with his team and knows the outcome will be better when the HItman come to Midland.

On Wednesday night The Bantam Braves cruised to a 6-0 win with rookie goalie Liam Alexander notching a shut out in his 2nd rep game ever.

Our Midgets headed to Stayner with a short bench but still dominated, coming out with a 15-2 win.

The Intermediate Braves dropped their first game of the season 7-4 to Stayner in a rough and tumble game. Goaltending was strong but the defense had a tough time containing the Hitmen attack. The Braves kept it close though they could not get the opportunities they needed to go ahead.

Overall a good week for the Huronia Braves.

Novice Rep Earn a Decisive Win Against Stayner

In the season opening match the Huronia Braves Novice Rep team makes the statement - we're here and we are ready to play! Strong offence, getting back on D and setting up the house combined with an awesome display of goalmanship (including breakaway stops!) propelled the Novice Rep team to a 6-1 victory over the always tuff Stayner team. I can't wait for the rest of the season - look out provincials here we come!

The New Huronia Braves

We are happy to showcase our new logo and new name, The Huronia Braves. As lacrosse grows in the area we wanted to reflect that in our name. We have kids playing from Midland - Penetanguishene, Tiny, Tay, Elmvale and all points inbetween. Our new name and logo reflect that.

Braves Home League started with two fun and exiciting games as the Novice and Peewee Home Teams squared off in an exhibition game Monday at the NSSRC. To those many new players and fans, we hope you better understand this game. For returning friends and fans I look forward to another fun program.

Thank you for registering with the Braves for our 2013 season.

This year we have the arena floor 1 week earlier and have invited 2 National Lacrosse League (NLL)Stars to host a Mini-Clinic this Monday April 22nd. The Clinic is FREE to all registered 2013 Braves players from Tyke age and up. Brad Self & Shaun Evans from Nationwide Lacrosse come with years of professional experience that your child will benefit from!!

The night is open for players Tyke age (born 2005 & 2006) and up.

Tyke - 6 pm

Novice & Peewee - 7 pm

Bantam, Midget & Intermediate - 8:30 pm

We will also be evaluating all players Monday night in order to establish our teams.

Provincial team practices/tryouts also start next week and all players are encouraged to participate.

Home League starts April 29th. PLEASE NOTE: The calendar does not include 2 House League Interlock travel dates. They should be posted shortly.

There will be parent info sessions around these first practices and your team manager will be in touch with you to provide more info about the season.

I am pleased to report that at this point we are almost full at all ages. Our little braves program is again well filled. There will be 2 full House League teams for our Novice & Peewee players. We have closed registration for Bantam but are short on Midget players (15-16 yrs). Please ask family or friends (players can start Lacrosse at any age and do well).

Finally, there is many challenges ahead as our club continues to grow. There are many new participants, as players, bench staff and in the club management. We all have much to learn both on and off the floor. I ask that as a member you always give your best and represent this club and sport with the honour it deserves.

May this season bring you all great pleasure as we play our national sport.

First Floor April 22nd ~ Free Lax Clinic with NLL Players

NLL players Brad Self and Shawn Evans are in town April 22nd to run a FREE clinic for all Tyke (7 & 8 yr olds) to Intermediate aged players. Times are now on the club calendar.

Brad and Shawn, both very accomplished lacrosse players, will be previewing their skills, giving our players and coaches some great instruction and promoting their Nationwide Lacrosse Camp that will be running this summer (July 22- 25th) at the NSSRC in Midland.

IMPORTANT: They are also available to visit area schools! Contact Ryan Steip now at thesteips@hotmail.com if you would like to arrange this.
